Helix eCW Companion

A browser extension by HC Intellect Inc for practices that use ClaimSuite with eClinicalWorks.

Effective date: September 22, 2026  ยท  Applies to: the Helix eCW Companion extension for Google Chrome, published on the Chrome Web Store by HC Intellect Inc ("HC Intellect", "we").

1. What this extension is

Helix eCW Companion is a Chrome extension for staff of healthcare practices that use HC Intellect ClaimSuite together with the browser edition of eClinicalWorks (eCW). It shows the ClaimSuite workspace in Chrome's side panel beside the eCW chart that is open, so the two stay in step for the same patient and visit.

The extension is not a consumer product. It is provided to practices under their service agreement with HC Intellect, and it does nothing without a ClaimSuite account issued by that practice.

2. What the extension reads

The extension runs only on eClinicalWorks web pages (addresses ending in eclinicalworks.com or ecwcloud.com) and inside its own side panel. On an eCW page it reads:

If a practice administrator turns on the training recorder, the extension also records which buttons and fields were used on eCW screens during that recording session, with numbers, dates, and typed values masked. The recorder is off by default, only an administrator can turn it on, and it is used to calibrate the extension to a practice's eCW version.

The extension does not read any other website, does not read your browsing history, and does not read keystrokes outside an administrator's recording session.

3. What the extension does with it

Everything the extension reads is handed to the ClaimSuite application that is running inside the side panel, for the signed-in user's own session. ClaimSuite uses it to show that patient's workspace, to let the assistant answer about the open note, and to check that the correct chart is on screen before any text is placed into eCW.

When you use "Open in eCW" from a ClaimSuite page, ClaimSuite may pass the extension your practice's eCW sign-in details so it can complete eCW's login form in your own browser tab. Those details are held in memory for at most five minutes and are never written to disk by the extension.

The extension itself sends nothing to HC Intellect or to anyone else. It makes no network requests. Information reaches HC Intellect only through the ClaimSuite application in the panel, in the same way as when you use ClaimSuite in an ordinary tab, and is handled under your practice's agreement with HC Intellect, including its business associate agreement where protected health information is involved.

4. What is stored on your computer

The extension stores only its configuration in Chrome's extension storage: the address of the ClaimSuite companion page, an optional organisation setting, page-layout settings for your eCW version, and settings pushed by your practice's IT department. It may also hold, for up to five minutes, an instruction to open a specific note or claim while it navigates your eCW tab.

The ClaimSuite application inside the panel keeps its own sign-in session, as any website does. No patient records are stored by the extension.

5. What we do not do

6. Security

The extension only accepts messages from its own side panel and from the ClaimSuite application, and it verifies the sender of every message. Writes into eCW are refused when the chart on screen is not the patient and visit the text was prepared for, or when the note is locked. ClaimSuite's own security practices apply to everything processed inside the panel.

7. Children

The extension is a workplace tool for healthcare practice staff and is not directed at children.

8. Changes

We will update this page when the extension's data practices change and note the new effective date above.
